Japanese group 'Babymetal' partners with Warner Bros for animated digital series

According to Deadline, Babymetal, the Japanese pop-metal musical sensation will star in a digital series. The group has partnered with Warner Bros. digital studio Blue Ribbon Content and Japanese subsidiary Amuse Inc. Amuse USA. Together, they develop an original hybrid show in live action and short animation. Key Kobayashi, the creator and manager of Babymetal, aka Kobametal, also produces.

The action-adventure series will be centered in the magical world of heavy metal music under heavy fire. And as a result, a lone god, Kitsune, forms the Babymetal warrior group to help save everyone. In the show, Su-Metal, Yuimetal and Moametal join forces to redefine the metal genre. The series will also feature live performances by the group, who will enter the animated world through a secret portal.

The group consists of three teenage girls with choreographed dance moves to accompany their voices. Babymetal’s popularity extends beyond Japan. The Japanese pop-metal group currently has two albums and has managed to achieve transcontinental success. Recently the band caught the attention of the Red Hot Chili Peppers who loved their music and are taking them on their first UK tour in five years. Additionally, Babymetal’s debut studio album took No. 1 on Billboard’s World Albums Chart and the official music video for the lead single from their debut album, “Gimme Chocolate !!”, has over 60 million views on YouTube at this day.

The band’s second album, Metal resistance, made them the first Japanese band in over 50 years to make the top 40 Billboard 200 albums.
