TeddyLoid: Japanese musician talks about music, manga and Milwaukee

TeddyLoid began his career as a DJ and sound producer for MIYAVI, a famous guitarist in Japan, joining his world tour at the age of just 18.

He produced the official soundtrack (OST) of the GAINAX anime “Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt” with Taku Takahashi (M-Flo). In 2014, he produced the music for the short film “ME! ME! ME!” which was visualized by Hibiki Yoshizaki of Studio Khara and the voice sung by DAOKO.

TeddyLoid remains popular with fans around the world through his work on other anime projects, and continues to collaborate with many big names in Japan like Tetsuya Komuro, Yasutaka Nakata, GLAY’s HISASHI and KOHH. TeddyLoid made his debut as a solo artist releasing his debut album “BLACK MOON RISING” in 2014, followed by “SILENT PLANET” a year later.

“Anime Milwaukee invited us to play this year,” said Rubab Rizvi, director of the arts agency Fake Star, USA. “They wanted a Japanese musician to perform at the convention, so we figure out how to do it. Rave at AMKE is a very popular event, so bringing TeddyLoid for it made perfect sense.

The Milwaukee Independent was invited to sit down with TeddyLoid on February 17 at the Anime Milwaukee convention and ask him a few questions.

Editor’s Note: Although TeddyLoid understands and speaks limited English, his interview questions were answered in Japanese and translated.
