Two Vietnamese singers, Pham Dinh Thai Ngan and Wren Evans, have been nominated for this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards and Asian TV Awards.
The two were nominated after receiving the most fan votes at MTV Fan Choice 2022 earlier this month, with Ngan taking home “Favorite Artist” and Evans’ “Gap May” (Lucky) taking home “Best Music.” Video”.
Ngan will compete against artists from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines in the “Best Act from Southeast Asia” category at the 2022 MTV Europe Music Awards.
The 29-year-old started his music career when he appeared in 2014 on The X-Factor Vietnam, the Vietnamese version of UK-based talent show The X-Factor. He rose to fame by lending his voice and singing the OST of blockbuster “Mat Biec” (Dreamy Eyes), which Vietnam sent to compete for the 2021 Oscars.
Evans’ (real name Le Phan) music video “Lucky” will compete at the 2022 Asian TV Awards along with other submissions from China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Qatar, New Zealand and Australia.
The MV has garnered over 4.2 million views on YouTube since its official release in January.
The 21-year-old singer from Hanoi started writing songs on the piano as a child. He and his two friends started a band called Young Man when they were in school. He is fluent in English and French.
The MTV EMA Awards celebrate the best music of the year and the biggest artists in the world. It started in 1994 and takes place every year in a different country.
Launched in 1996, the Asian Television Awards recognize excellence in programming, production and performance. It has over 40 categories and attracts hundreds of entries every year.
